The Mexico Volcanoes trip is an all time favorite amongst guests and guides. It is an all inclusive trip (no hidden fees) once you arrive in Mexico City. The combination of cultural experiences, great food, and amazing climbing makes it a must do for any mountaineer. This trip is led by an IFMGA Certified American Mountain Guide. The team truly makes this trip a special endeavor. During our trip, we climb the two highest peaks in Mexico and one acclimatization peak: Pico De Orizaba at 18,481ft (3rd highest peak in North America), Ixtaccihuatl (17,340), and Malinche (14,636).

This trip is designed so that we spend 2 nights in tents — one night at Pico De Orizaba basecamp and one at Ixtaccihuatl high camp. All other nights are spent in historic hotels in some of the most beautiful cities Mexico has to offer. The climbing is interspersed throughout the trip with other days visiting historic sites and learning about the rich history of Mexico. We also have a private local tour guide with us during our travels for the Museum of Anthropology, Teoihuacan, Pyramid del Sol (the third largest pyramid in the world), and Puebla (known as one of the most culturally rich and beautiful cities in Mexico.)

On the way we have time to visit Amecameca and purchase any last minute items for our climb. From here we head into Izta-Popo Zoquiapan National Park. Day 8

Orizaba Summit Day • 18,491' | 5,636M

Summit Day on Pico de Orizaba! Waking before the sun, we make our way through a maze of rock and scree. Once we reach the Jamapa Glacier, the remainder of the climb is snow/ice. We will use our crampons/ice axe/ and the rope to ascend to the summit. There are limited crevasses on Orizaba and it is a great place to be introduced to glacier climbing. Hurrah the summit of the third highest peak in North America! Pico De Orizaba (18,491). We then reverse the route back to basecamp. Once at Piedra Grande, we load our trucks and descend for a hot shower and a home-cooked meal. We spend the night in our partner hotel near at the base.
