Matterhorn Climb
The Matterhorn is undeniably one of the most beautiful mountains in the world. It is a climbers dream peak. Steep on all sides, there is no way to walk up. It is all rock and snow climbing. Our Matterhorn climb and course is one of our favorite trips. We spend 7 days in the Alps, staying in hotels, mountain huts, and climbing some absolutely beautiful objectives. The first part of the trip is spent based in Chamonix. Chamonix is the most famous mountain town in the world, and for good reason. The access to the mountains is unheard of anywhere else in the world. Lifts are built all across the valley that take you up to the glaciated and beautiful alpine terrain. The other half of the trip will be spent in Zermatt. The Matterhorn towers over Zermatt and is a true spectacle.
The beginning of the trip is a course and we will spend time dialing you in with all the skills you need to climb the Matterhorn. However the Matterhorn is a serious undertaking with 4,000 vertical feet of climbing. Then after summiting you descend the same way you went up. The route is called the Hornli Ridge. This said you need to arrive with a very good base fitness and some prior rock climbing skills. The second half of the trip we focus on the Matterhorn. Don’t worry, it is a jam packed 7 days of climbing. However, we still find plenty of time for enjoying beverages of choice and experiencing the local mountain culture and cuisine!

Itinerary
Day 1
Chamonix Valley • 3396' |1042m
Meet your guide in the morning for a gear check. Depending on conditions we will pick a great objective for the day. You can expect an alpine rock ridge. We will then have a great Dinner in Chamonix Valley, followed by a night at the hotel.
Day 2
Aiguille Du Midi • 12,605' | 3842m
Today we will take the Aiguille du Midi to the top. This is a 10,000 ft lift and deposits you on the glacier. We will attempt to climb the Entreves Traverse. This is a beautiful rock ridge. The night will be spent in a mountain hut (11,000ft). These huts allow us amazing access and great flexibility with our climbing objectives. The mountain huts are very nice. They provide breakfast and dinner, a bed and you can choose from an espresso, beer, or wine after a day of climbing.
Day 3
Chamonix Valley• 3396' | 1042m
Today we climb the classic Cosmiques arete! If we have time we may climb another objective prior to this one. The Cosmiques is a beautiful ridge. The summit is the Aiguille Du Midi Lift station. This climb is truly what the alps are made of! You will then take the Lift down and be back in Chamonix at a hotel in the afternoon.
Day 4
Hornli Hut • 10,700' | 3,260m
Today we will transfer to Zermatt. This is where we will be meeting our second guide for the Matterhorn. After we drop our luggage off we will head to the Hornli Hut. After getting checked in we will head up and preview the first section of the Matterhorn climb. We have now had some acclimatization so we should feel good heading to the Hornli.
Day 5
Matterhorn Summit Day • 14,692' | 4,478m
Summit Day! We will get an alpine start and if weather and conditions allow, stand on the beautiful summit of the Matterhorn! We will be climbing the Hornli Ridge. The climb consists of a lot of fourth and low fifth class rock climbing. At some point we often put our crampons on and get our ice axes out. The route itself is really aesthetic and has engaging rock climbing the entire way. Our descent follows the same route. A mix of lowers and down climbing will get us back for another night at the Hornli Hut!
Day 6
Zermatt • 5,315' | 1,620m
Today is a contingency day and could be a summit day. If we were successful with the weather the day before, then we head back down to Zermatt. The day is spent relaxing and enjoying this beautiful mountain town. We will tour the Matterhorn Museum, dine on authentic Swiss cuisine and celebrate!
Day 7
We will transfer back to the airport for our departure. Or you can choose to stay and continue traveling around Europe!
